There are 374 students going on a field trip. Each bus holds 44 students. If the school pays 95$ per bus, will they need to spend more than $1000 for the buses? How can you decide without division? (ONLY IF YOU KNOW)

First, solve for how many busses needed.
374 total / 44 students per bus = if you divide, it will be 8.5, but you can't have half a bus! So there will need to be a 9th bus with empty seats.

Now if you multiply the cost by the number of busses...
$95 * 9 busses = 855

$855 will be spent!

No, because I know that each bus hold 44 students, so I just estimate that there are 9 buses total, and I just need to take 9 times 95 which equal $855. Hope it help!
