You could say that he's cyclically unemployed since he might get his job back as a designer once the production increases again since it's a cycle of ups and downs. You could also say that he's domestically unemployed since he's from the place where he works. And he's also just unemployed since he's out of a job or a contract. Others mentioned types don't apply to him.
