Mr. Mancuso plants tomatoes on 1/3 acre of land, corn on 3/4 acre, and carrots on 1/2 acre. On how many acres of land total did he plant?

Explanation:

you will need to add up all the acres he used for each planting

find a common denominator to enable the addition for

1/3 + 3/4 + 1/2

the common denominator is 12

step 2 : divide the common denominator by each denominator then multiply the results by each numerator

1/3 + 3/4 + 1/2 =

for the tomatoes which is 1/3 it will be (12/3 * 1 ) ÷ 12 = 4/12

for corn which is 3/4 it will be ( 12/4 * 3 ) ÷ 12 = 9/12

for carrot which is 1/2 it will be ( 12/2 * 1 ) ÷ 12 = 6/12

step 3: since they all have a common denominator add up all the new numerators which will be

4/12 + 9/12 + 6/12 = 19/12 = 1.58 acres was used
