Final answer:

Kenniston is characterized as desperate due to his dire situation and dashed hopes in the given lines.

Step-by-step explanation:

Based on the context provided by the text, Kenniston's situation is dire, as his hopes were dashed due to the lack of ships. The lines related to Kenniston suggest that he is experiencing a deep sense of despair and frustration, which leads to the conclusion that Kenniston is desperate. The selection of text reflects dramatic circumstances but does not necessarily indicate that Kenniston himself is being dramatic, nor do the lines necessarily suggest he is maintaining a realistic perspective or expressing anger.

I think the answer is B. angry because without the ship his hopes were destroyed. It's not desperate because the ship was already ruined. It can't be dramatic because it's not sudden or striking. It can't be D because it doesn't really relate to being real.
