The Patricians were landowners and they held the belief that they were the first families of Rome, they had a noble status and held the key to military and religious offices.

The Patricians also did not have to pay taxes, had the right to political participation and the right to vote.

Plebeians were the lower classes of the Roman social status but came before slaves. They worked as laborers, shopkeepers and unskilled workers. They had a few rights but they were limited in comparison to the Patricians. They could not participate in any government matters. They had to pay taxes and join the army and had no representation in the Roman government.
