C because once you do the math you are to divide 4 and 4 and that gives 1 but in this case it would be -1

8 - 3x - x = 12

Subtract 8 from both sides.

-3x - x = 12 - 8

Simplify.

-4x = 4

Divide both sides by -4.

x = -1

Therefore, your answer is C) -1
