This problem requires the Distributive Property. The Distributive Property multiplies the outside number by the inside numbers. So let's get started!
5(1 - 5x) = 5 - 25x, since we are doing 5(1) + 5(-5x). This makes the left side of the left half of the equation 5x -25x, now we must do the other half of the left side. 5(-8x + 2) = -40x + 10.
Now we must combine the two expressions.
(5 - 25x) + (40x + 10). Combine like-terms.
40x-25x = 15x, 10 + 5 =15
The left half of the equation is 15x + 15.
Now our equation is 15x + 15 = -4x -8x
Get x on one side, so add 12x to both sides.
27x + 15 = 0
Get x by itself. Subtract 15 from both sides.
27x = -15
Divide by 27 to get x.
-15/27 = -0.5555~.
Since your question asks that we round to 4 decimal places, we round if the number is 5 or higher.
0.55555 has 5 or higher, so we round the 4th decimal place to the right (ten-thousandths place) to 6.
0.5556 is your answer.
I hope this helps!
