James Meredith took his case against the University of Mississippi to Supreme Court of United States, to fight against racism and the civil rights of black people especially the right to higher education.

To achieve this he had to promote protests that finally had their fruits on October 1, 1962, the date on which he became the first black student to enter that university.

During his fight to be accepted, he was involved in violent riots that had as a mortal victim the French journalist Paul Guihard.

Going to the demonstrations was of great importance for Mederith, for asserting civil rights and continuing the fight against racism at that time.

James Meredith enrolled in the University of Mississippi. However he was denied admission due to the school's segregationist policy. He took this case to the Supreme Court of USA. Later he became the first African-American to get enrolled in the University of Mississippi. He graduated from the university in the year 1963.
