M = 1000
D = 500
C = 100
X = 10
V = 5
I = 1
There is one M, so it is at least 1000
There is a D and 3 Cs, which makes it at least 1800
There are 3 Xs, which adds 30
and V(5) + I(1) = 6
The answer is
1836
