Ms. Sharp just moved into a new apartment and her bathtub is draining extremely slowly. She's trying to diagnose the problem, so she filled up her tub and let the water drain out to see how long it would take to drain. The graph below represents the number of gallons of water remaining in the tub and the time in minutes. 18 Gailansal Water 2 minutes -

Answer:

5. The value (x,y) of the x-intercept means that in 15 minutes the tub is completely drained.

6. The y-intercept is (0, 20)

7. The value (x,y) = (0, 20) means that at the start of draining, there are 20 gallons of water in the drain.

Explanation:

The graph shown in the figure is that of a linear equation which we deduce to be

y=-(4)/(3)x+20

The y-axis represents the number of gallons of water left in the tub and the x-axis represents the amount of time elapsed since the start of the draining.

Therefore, the point (15, 0 ) is the x-intercept and it says that in 15 minutes there amount of water in the tank is 0.

Similarly, the point (0, 20) is the y-intercept and it says that at x =0 (time of the start of the drain) the amount of water in the tub is 20 gallons.
