Hello!

First, notice that Erik has 8 different possibilities for radios:

• Rock

,

• Pop

,

• Country

,

• Classical

,

• News

,

• Jazz

,

• Easy Listening

,

• Rad

If he selects randomly one station, let's calculate the possibilities:

• select Country

\frac{1\text{ option}}{8\text{ possible options}}=(1)/(8)

• select Jazz

\frac{1\text{ option}}{8\text{ possible options}}=(1)/(8)

But attention:

What is the probability he will select either Country or Jazz?

As we have the word "or", it means that we have to sum these two possibilities, so:

\text{Country}+\text{Jazz}=(1)/(8)\cdot(1)/(8)=(2)/(8)=(1)/(4)

Answer:

1/4.
