Adam and his sister Beatrice each got 1 container. I know this because combining their allowances allows us to get 14$. When 12$ is subtracted from 14$ the answer is 2$. If each container is a dollar, they both got 1.

14 - 12 = 2 dollars left over to buy containers. They each got one container each.
