Suppose you work for a large coffee distributor that has a secret coffee blend it sells to local stores. You mix the Costa Rican blend with the Tanzanian blend, but always in the same proportion. Yesterday, you mixed 60 pounds of the Costa Rican blend with 12 pounds of the Tanzanian blend. Today, there is 30 pounds of the Costa Rican coffee left in stock. How many pounds of the Tanzanian coffee should you mix with it to get your secret blend? Answer: pounds

Since we have the same proportions and the following data:

For the total mix we add 60 pound of the Costa Rican Blend and 12 pounds of the Tanzanian Blen, but since today we only have 30 pounds of the Costa Rican Blend, how many pounds of the Tanzanian Blend we need to add?

In order to solve for the ammount of pounds of the Tanzanian Blend, we multiply the ammount of Costa Rican Blend we have at hand (30 pounds) times the total ammount of Tanzanian Blend we use with the 60 pound of PRB (12 pounds) and divide it by the 60 pounds of PRB (60 pound:

T_(TB)=(30\cdot12)/(60)\Rightarrow T_(TB)=6

So, we will need 6 pounds of Tanzanian Blend to mix with the 30 pound of Puerto Rican Blend that day.
