The underground Railroad was a network of safe routes and safe houses established in the early nineteenth century in the United States. It was organized by people who wanted to free families or individuals who had been enslaved.

example:

Frederick Douglass, another fugitive slave who escaped slavery, was an example of the underground railroad (instead of a underground railroad it was a literal actual train)
