The answer is 10mph because it took him a half hour to run 5 miles
to find his rate all you do is multiply 5 by 2 to get 10.

With distance = rate * time we can figure out his rate or speed.

Plug in variables: 5 miles = 30 minutes * r

First convert 30 minutes into an hour. Which is easy. It's 1/2 an hour.

5 miles = 1/2 hour * r

Divide both sides by 1/2 hour.

5 miles / 1/2 hour = (1/2 hour * r) / 1/2 hour

10 miles per hour = r
Then switch around.

r = 10 miles per hour
