l=length of commercials, p=program on television
p=3l+7
p=30
Substitute 30 for p in first equation
30=3l+7
23=3l, l=7 and 2/3
length of commercials: 7 minutes and 40 minutes.

well if we let c represent the number of minutes the commercials ran, then 3c+7 = 30 right?
