What steps do you use to solve this?

x - 6 = 1/4x - 9

Multiply both sides by 4 to get rid of the fraction.
4x - 24 = x -36
Get x on the same side
3x - 24 = -36
Get 3x by itself
4x = -12
Divide by 4
x = -3
