These four finch species lived together on an island. Each species ate something different: large seeds, small seeds, insects, and leaves. As more people moved to the island and built houses, the available finch food changed. There were fewer seeds of any kind for the finches to eat. We would expect, over time?

A) that the seed eating species would disappear.
B) there would be little change in the finch species.
C) that the seed eating birds would eat something else.
D) all the finch species would gradually become extinct.

The answer is A) That the seed eating species would disappear, because the seeds would disappear followed by the finches that ate those seeds and the other finches that eat other food like insects would thrive.

Answer:

Option C

Step-by-step explanation:

We would expect a reduction in the number of the seed eating species and that for survival, they would have to find something else to eat. A change in their diets might bring about better adaption and survival rather than for them to disappear completely. Thus a change in their diet can bring about better features e.g beak change that will enable their survival on that island and then when reproduction occur, natural selection can bring about the selection the better adapted traits hence ensuring their survival.
