You and a friend go to the movies and split the cost of the movie tickets and snacks. You pay the bill. You tell your friend he owes only $9 because you owed him $4 from the last time you went to the movies. How much was the total bill? Let b represent the total bill. Identify the correct equation to represent this problem and the correct solution.

B÷ 2 4 – b = $10
B÷2 4 = 9; b = $ 26
B ÷ 2 + 9 = 4; b = $ 26
2b – 4 = 9; b = $ 7.50

Danielle went ice skating. It cost $3 an hour and $5 for skate rental. If Danielle spent $11, how many hours did she ice-skate? Let h represent the number of hours spent ice-skating. Identify the correct equation to represent this problem and the correct solution.
3h – 5 5 = 11; h = 2
5h + 3 = 11; h = 1.6
3h + 5 = 11; h = 2
5h – 3 = 11 ; h = 2.8

Ok so you divide the bill by 2 because you each are paying half. You knock off $4 because you owed him that from last time and you pay $9. So this would equal to b/2 -4 =9. If you work it out in reverse, you get 4+9 which equals 13 then multiplied by 2 which means the total bill was $26.

So we have 5+3x=11. We subtract 5 from both sides and get 3x=6. we divide both sides by 3 and get x=2. Daniella skated for 2 hours
