The primary cause of the ice ages that shaped our geographical entirety during the prehistoric time can be best explained using the Milankovitch cycles. The cycle, named after the Serbian physicist Milutin Milankovitch, states that it could be caused by the earth's orbit around the sun, the tilt of its axis, and others.

It is thought that Milankovitch cycles caused past ice age climates.

This cycle is related to the movement of earth

The cycle has three parts eccentricity, axial tilt, and precession. These three are supposed to be deciding factor for the amount of heat reaching on earth from sun

thus the complete Milankovitch cycle do affect the temperature and hence the climate on earth.
