Why did george h.w. bush intervene in somalia?

Bush wanted to help save a million lives of Somali people from famine conditions brought about by civil war,  worst African droughts and failed UN peacekeeping. Bush intervened and described as "God's work". The intervention of US brought food to starving Somalis although civil war is still unabated.
