Shannon is putting a fence around the garden except where there is a gate that is 3 feet wide 1 foot of the fence cost $43 the cost of the gate is $128 write an expression that represents the total cost of the fence and the gate and explain how you determine your expression.

f = feet of fence
c = total cost

43f + 128 = c

Since we're missing any dimensions, we identify the fence with f and the gate with 128, If each foot of fence is $43 (unrealistic), then 43f shows the value of any amount of fencing. Adding those two values together will provide the total cost.
