In this question what can be answered is that people can have multiple reasons to not support gene editing, such as ethical and religious, as the statement tells us. Among the ethical reasons, it can be summed up that gene editing is still a research field with great gaps in terms that there are still too many things that we don't know about it, and that we cannot control, such as which specific DNA fragments will be added or deleted from our genome, so currently it could be beneficial, but also it has a potential risk upon us and our health because it could cause worts diseases, than the one it's intended for. Though, other applications of gene editing, such as the one in the agricultural industry have good results, because it can help species, such as tomatoes, to be more resistant to plagues, and help fight against the world's hunger.
On the other hand, in religious issues, I'd say it depends on each religion.
