In 14-karat gold, only a fraction of the gold is pure gold.

A fraction as a decimal, in this case 58.3%, is:

(583)/(1000) ~or~ (58.3)/(100).

We multiply either fraction by 5.6, to get an answer of:
3.2648 grams.
