A recessive allele - is hidden when ever the dominant allele is present.
A dominant allele - is one whose trait always shows up in the organism when the allele is present.
They are basically the opposite.

recessive is less occuring than dominant ( rare gene)
dominant allele ( or gene) is the gene that normally ocurrs
