Slave Dred Scott sued for his freedom on the basis that his owner had taken him to live in a free state and then a free territory. His case was argued in front of the Supreme Court in 1857. What was the Supreme Court's ruling in the Dred Scott v. Sandford case?

Their ruling was that he did not even have the right to sue in a federal court. The case was dropped in the end. Hope this helped!

Dred Scott was still considered property and could not make a lawsuit because he was a slave. The Supreme Court said no, so Stanford won the case
Hope this helps
