Answer:

On July 2nd, 1862, Lincoln signed the Pacific Railroad Act. In 1863, construction began on a transcontinental railroad. Central Pacific and Union Pacific were in charge of it. It reached from Iowa to California. It was completed in 1869, two lines connected at Promontory Summit in Utah. It allowed Americans to travel by rail from the East to the West Coasts.
