Agnew defined this in his General Strain Theory, stating that an individual's emotions play a large role in their decision-making process. One of his points was that it's a reaction of negative relationships that produce negativity, anger, and hatred within a person. He states that it is the strain, pressure, and frustration that leads an individual to commit a crime. The theory attempts to understand strain better and how that relates to crime by individuals.
