An elegy is a poem devoted to many possible topics. Meditation and deep thoughts are essential to the writing of an elegy. The speakers of an elegy express their admiration for a lover or a person who has died. The correct option is the first one, although an elegy can be a solemn poem about death, this is not the only topic it deals with.
