Charles V was known for being a ruler of the Holy Roman Empire. He wanted to unify and create a huge empire but was thwarted because of the Protestant reformation. So he abdicated and gave them throne to his son Phillip.

Charles V as Holy Roman Emperor wanted to establish a universal empire but he was unable to do so, he failed to conquer North Africa. His rule was marked by the fight against Protestantism, during this period, Catholicism struggled to have hegemony in Western Europe, because of that he was forced to allow princes inside his Empire to choose between Catholicism or Protestantism.
