Had to look for the options and here is my answer. In addition to the provision of water for the agriculture of India, the Ganges river has always been important to India for the reason that IT IS A SACRED RIVER FOR THE HINDU POPULATION. This is considered as one of the most sacred places in Hinduism. Hope this helps.
