Part A

Coach Wilson ordered the same number of shirts from each supplier. Write 2 expressions to represent the shipping charges he paid to both suppliers use x to represent the number of shirts ordered.

Part B

The first supplier gave Coach Wilson a discount of 10% off of his order total. The second supplier gave him a discount of $20 off of his order total. Write 2 equations to represent the total costs he paid to each supplier use x to represent the number of shirts ordered

PART A- Let x be the number of shirts (& notice that the shipping cost per shirt is 5%=0.05 & 7%=0.07. Since there are x shirts for each of the 2 suppliers, the total amount of shipping for 1st supplier is (0.05x) & for 2nd supplier, (0.07x)

First supplier:$16 x +(0.05x)

Second supplier $18x +(0.07x)

PART B: Cost from 1st supplier $16 -10% of 16 = $16-$1.6= $14.4

Cost from 2nd supplier $18 -20% of 18 = $18-$3.6= $14.4

Hence the equation of the 1st is $14.4x +(0.05x)

& the 2nd is $14.4x +(0.07x)

PART C: if 15vshirts were ordered then he paid:

from the 1st supplier: (14.4) x (15) +(0.05 x 15)= $216.75

from the 2nd supplier: (14.4) x (15) + (0.07 x 15)=$217.05

Total cost $216.75 + $217.05 = $433.80
