Whenever a graph is manipulated within the parenthesis (like it is here) we know the graph is being translated horizontally. Then, we negate the value that is being added to the variable (in this case it is a 6) in order to find how the graph is being translated. When you negate 6, you get -6, so the graph is being shifted 6 units to the left.
