the one up top is 40 and 5x+10 should equal 40 as well because they are the same length.
you have to multiply something(the x) by 5 and add 10. So 6 times five is 30 plus ten equals 40.
5(x)+10=40
5(6)+10=40
30+10=40
40=40

Set 40 = 5x + 10
Subtract 10 on both sides, then divide 30 by 5
x = 6
