What happened to many manuscripts of Anglo-Saxon literature?

Many manuscripts were destroyed by Danish raids.

Many manuscripts were destroyed by Danish raids.
Only about 400 manuscripts are left after the raids and only 189 of those are considered important.

The right answer is “All of above”, meaning that Many manuscripts were destroyed by Danish raids and some of them were taken out of the country to save them.

Anglo-Saxon manuscripts are works written in Old English and Latin around the years 600 and 1100. Many of them were housed in religious institutions like monasteries and priories. Just few of them are nowadays available, in total are around 400 considered as Old English text and just 189 major.
