The population of a town increased from 3100 in 2007 to 4650 in 2010 find the absolute and relative (percent) increase

Absolute increase

Relative increase.

we have that

The Absolute increase is equal to subtract 3100 from 4650

so

4,650-3,100=1,550

Find out the realtive percent increase

Applyin proportion

we have that

3100 represent the 100%

so

Applying proportion

Find out what percentage represent 1,550

3,100/100%=1,550/x

solve for x

x=(1,550*100)/3,100

x=50%

Absolute increase 1,550

Relative increase. 50%
