Solve logx + 5 36 = 2.
options:

if x+5 is the base, the equation means (x+5)^2=36

clearly x+5=6

hence x=1

$\displaystyle\\ \bf\\ log_(x+5) 36 = 2\\\\ \Longrightarrow~~(x+5)^2 = 36\\\\ (x+5)^2 = 6^2\\\\ x+5= 6\\\\ x = 6 - 5 = \boxed{\bold{1}}$
