Two consecutive even integers are:

x and x+2 the product of which is:

x(x+2) and we are told that this is equal to 48 so:

x(x+2)=48

x^2+2x=48 ← that is your answer...

x^2+2x-48=0

x^2+8x-6x-48=0

x(x+8)-6(x+8)=0

(x-6)(x+8)=0 so there are two solutions that satisfy the conditions of the question...

x=6 and x=-8 so the pair of numbers solutions is:

-8 and -6 and

6 and 8
