A farm had 480 acres more wheat than corn. After the farmers collected 80% of the wheat and 25% of the corn, the area of the wheat was 300 acres less than the area of the corn. What was the area of the wheat field and what was the area of the corn field?

W=C+480

0.2W+300=0.75C

we will use the substitution method by plugging in the first equation into the second equation.

0.2(C+480)+300=0.75C.

now solve for C.

0.2C+96+300=0.75C.

396=0.55C

C=720.

solve for W:

W=C+480

W=720+480

W=1200
