• Expansion of geographic knowledge
• Differentiate between smallpox and measles
• Diagnose the plague, diphtheria, leprosy, rabies, baker’s cyst, diabetes, gout and haemophilia
• Muslim surgeons were also pioneers in performing amputations and cauterizations
