When a graph is vertically compressed by a factor of k the parent function is divided by a non zero number k.

When the parent function, f(x)=x is compressed by a factor of 2, the new function can be determined as,

\begin{gathered} g(x)=(f(x))/(2) \\ =(x)/(2) \\ =0.5x \end{gathered}

Thus, the required new function is 0.5x.
