In mexico's tlatelolco massacre, why were the demonstrators protesting?

The demonstrators were protesting in Tlatelolco because they oppose the control of the government in the oil reserves the country has. The protest eventually lead to a massacre wherein there were estimatedly 300 who were killed by the military which sparked concern in the global community.
