A male with a mutation in a gene on the X chromosome is typically affected with the condition. Because females have two copies of the X chromosome and males have only one X chromosome, X-linked recessive diseases are more common amongmales than females.

Because sex linked traits are only carried through the x chromosome, and because men only have one x chromosome to store that information with, and their y chromosome can't cancel it out, they have a higher risk of getting that disorder.
