You move both the 9 and 2 away from the x by subtracting the 9 and dividing the 2
2x+9=45
-9 -9
2x=36
/2 /2
X=18

2x+9=45

Subtract 9 from both sides, so (9-9) and (45-9). You get 36.
Divide 36 by 2. You get 18. X=18
