Carbonic Acid, formed from carbon dioxide in the soil that seeps into ground water, will slowly dissolve limestone over time. 5 years ago. Groundwater naturally contains carbon acid that allows it to dissolve limestone and form caverns

Caverns are formed due to
Carbonic Acid which is found in ground water and which also dissolves limestone.
