Spy planes like the U-2, followed by the satellites, spy and otherwise, intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), all kinds of electronic bugging devices, phone taps, all the weaponry like hydrogen bombs which evolved from the atomic bomb developed at the end of WWII, the development and use of jet aircraft, Communication systems like Radio Free Europe that put radio controlled by the US in Eastern Europe, the space race itself was a result of our competition with Russia to be the first in space (them) and to the moon (us).
