Both carbon dioxide molecules and water molecules have polar bonds. Why then is carbon dioxide a nonpolar molecule while water is a polar molecule?

carbon dioxide is non polar because its straight-line shape causes the two oxygen atoms to pull on the shared electrons in opposite directions and cancel each other out
