Wendy bought 3.74 pounds of swiss cheese at $6.29 per pound and 1.34 pounds of provolone cheese at $6.29 per pound. Which expression does NOT show the total cost, in dollars, of her purchase?

6.29 ⋅(3.74 + 1.34)

6.29 ⋅ 3.74 + 1.34

6.29 ⋅ 3.74 + 6.29 ⋅ 1.34

5.08 ⋅ 6.29

6.29 ⋅ 3.74 + 1.34

That is the wrong (or right?) answer. Pick that one.

Answer:

6.29 * 3.74 + 1.34 does not shows the total cost

Explanation:

Wendy bought 3.74 pounds of swiss cheese at $6.29 per pound and 1.34 pounds of provolone cheese at $6.29 per pound.

3.74 pounds of swiss cheese at $6.29 per pound = 3.74 * 6.29

1.34 pounds of provolone cheese at $6.29 per pound= 1.34 * 6.29

So total cost =
3.74 * 6.29 + 1.34 * 6.29

6.29 is in common so we factor it out

total cost =
6.29(3.74+ 1.34)

add the numbers inside the parenthesis

total cost =
6.29(5.08)

So, 6.29 ⋅ 3.74 + 1.34 does not shows the total cost
