First simplify the equation to the form.
6y+4=8+2y+2

Then move all terms containing y to the left and all other terms to the right.
+6y-2y=+8+2-4

Then simplify left and right side of the equation.
+4y=+6

Then divide both sides of the equation by 4 to get y.
y=1.5

6y +4 = 8 + 2y + 2y
2y + 4 = 8
2y = 4
y = 2
