Line segment AB with endpoints A(4, 16) and B(20, 4) lies in the coordinate plane. The segment will be dilated with a scale factor of 3/4 and a center at the origin to create (A' B'.) What will be the length of (A' B' ) ?

The distance between two points which is also the length of the line segment is calculated through the equation,
d = √(x₂ - x₁)² + (y₂ - y₁)²
Substituting the known values from the given,
d = √(20 - 4)² + (4 - 16)² = 20
Thus, to get the length of A'B, we multiply the length of AB by 3/4 giving us the answer of 15.
